How to Save Restaurants from Instagram (and Actually Book Them)
Turn Instagram restaurant Reels and DMs into a shortlist with what to order, booking tips, and collections that match real dinners.
Instagram is where a lot of people discover restaurants now — Reels of pasta, Stories from friends, carousels of "best new openings." Saving the post is easy. Finding that restaurant when you are free to book is the hard part.
Here is how to save restaurants from Instagram into a shortlist you can actually use.
Save the restaurant while the dish is still obvious
On iPhone:
- Open the Reel, post, or DM with the restaurant.
- Tap Share → someday (or save the map link the creator tagged if you only need location).
- Put it in a restaurant-shaped collection —
Date nights,Group dinners,Cheap good pasta,Lisbon food. - Note what to order before you close the app.
If you only remember "pasta place someone liked," you will re-scroll for twenty minutes later. If you wrote spicy crab spaghetti, book on Thursdays, you decide in thirty seconds.
Collections that work for restaurants
Skip one infinite "food" list. Prefer:
- Occasion — date night, birthday, solo counter, group table
- Neighbourhood — near home, near the office
- Trip — city + food only
- Budget / vibe — only if you use those filters in real life

Capture five fields (only the ones you need)
You do not need a full review. From What to note when you save a restaurant:
- What to order
- What to skip
- Best time / booking tip
- Who recommended it
- Why it caught you (vibes, outdoor seat, good for parents)
One or two fields beat a blank save every time.
Instagram saves vs restaurant lists
| Approach | Works for | Breaks when | | --- | --- | --- | | Instagram Saved folder | Rediscovering the Reel | Saturday booking | | Google Maps star | Navigation | Missing dish/source context | | Dedicated restaurant collection | Choosing and sharing a shortlist | You never add a note (fixable with a template) |
From Instagram to booking
- Open the collection for tonight's occasion.
- Cull anything outside time/budget tonight.
- Check notes for booking tips.
- Book or message the group.
- Open Maps only for the chosen place.
That path turns Instagram from a mood board into a working list.
Group chats and friend DMs
Many "best" restaurants never appear in public Reels — they arrive as DMs or group chats. Same habit:
- Save the place the day it arrives
- Note who sent it
- Optionally keep a
Friend recscollection
