How to Turn TikTok Favorites into a Trip List
A simple system to convert TikTok Favorites into a trip shortlist you and co-travellers can plan from — without rewatching every video.
TikTok is excellent at filling your Favorites with trip inspiration. It is much worse at turning those Favorites into a trip shortlist you and a co-traveller can actually plan from.
Here is a practical way to turn TikTok favorites into a trip list without rewatching every video the week before you fly.
Step 1: Make one collection per trip (not per vibe)
Name it something boring and specific:
Japan May 2026Portugal with friendsNYC long weekend
Avoid travel vibes 2026. Vague names become junk drawers.
Step 2: Define a "keep" rule before you open Favorites
Only move a TikTok into the trip list if at least one is true:
- You would be disappointed to miss it
- A friend who knows the city sent it
- It fills a real slot (breakfast near hotel, rainy day, day trip)
If it was pure entertainment, leave it in TikTok.
Step 3: Import from iPhone while adding one note
For each keep:
- Share the TikTok into your trip collection (share sheet steps).
- Note area + tip —
Asakusa — go early, order the set menu. - Optional: tag whether it is food, viewpoint, shop, or stay.
Do not aim for a complete catalog of every place you liked. Aim for a shortlist you will open twice before the trip.
Step 4: Sort once into 3–5 sub-lists (optional)
If the trip is longer than a weekend, split inside the trip (or use multiple collections):
- Must-do anchors (5–8 places max)
- Food near the hotel
- Day trips / further out
- If-we-have-time

Step 5: Share the list, then stop forwarding videos
If you plan with a partner or friends:
- Share the collection instead of re-sending TikToks
- Ask them to add, not only react
- Argue about the shortlist once in the list, not across three chats

Step 6: Only then open itinerary tools
Travel planners and day-by-day itineraries work after you know which places are contenders. Dumping raw TikTok saves into an itinerary app early is why people abandon both.
Save inspiration first. Schedule later.
Common failure modes
| Failure | Fix | | --- | --- | | 200 Favorites, 0 shortlist | Keep rule + max 8 must-dos | | Rewatching on the plane | Notes on dish/area at import time | | Two people with incompatible saves | Shared collection from day one | | Everything pinned in Maps already | Keep Tips off Maps until shortlist is final |
